The bunny run we bought Fern had a ramp up to the bed box. Fern has removed it. We went out to see her one afternoon and it was laying flat on the floor. Foolishly we thought it was an accident, so we stuck it back up. The ramp had been attached with screws and she had pulled it clean off, but we managed to reattach it.
Fern was obviously not impressed and pulled it down again. I guess we are a bit daft, because we kept putting it back up and were trying to think of away to secure it permanently. Then Fern pulled it down flipped it over and started chewing on it. We finally got the message, so Fern’s bunny run no longer has a ramp.

Fern's new outdoor home
We had planned to let Fern out in the garden next summer, when the weather warmed up, but Fern had other ideas. Being a house bunny wasn’t exciting enough for her. It started off with her climbing on our bed, then progressed to climbing on the furniture in our bedroom where she discovered our house plants and started digging them up.
So we have given in and bought Fern an outdoor run. We had really wanted to build her something ourselves, but the weather was too cold and Fern obviously was not going to wait. Our chosen bunny run is actually a chicken coop, but it works just as well for a bunny home. It is not as big as we would have liked, but it does have an all important bunny door, so Fern can run free around our garden and hopefully burn off some of her energy.

Thumper & Flower were Derek’s moment of weakness, we went to stock up on supplies and came home with two bunnies.

Flower & Thumper
As Mars & Jupiter already occupied the garden we got to discover the fun of house bunnies. Flower & Thumper have a room upstairs and a large indoor bunny run, with a bunny door so they can easily come out and play. Derek made our bunny run, taking great care to listen to what the bunnies wanted. Thumper insisted on windows so he could keep and eye on what was going on. We used large cardboard boxes as tunnels and as Thumper likes to climb on things Derek made him a platform. With Thumper’s love of climbing we also had to fit a lid to the run to stop him jumping out.
Having house bunnies is a great experience. They are a lovely little pair, who entertain us with their antics. Flower is very sweet it is hard to do anything without him coming to help, he enjoys standing on our feet. He is not as adventuress as Thumper, and he often getting left out when Thumper goes climbing.

My first bunny Thumper
Derek says he was inspired to get get bunnies because they reminded him of gerbils, just bigger! “It’s the way they hop about” he says. After six years of looking after bunnies he has learnt what complex little characters they are.
I’d had a rabbit ‘Thumper’ when I was little, and I’d told Derek many stories about the trouble he got into. While my Thumper lived in the garden and had a large run he regularly came into the house to eat the furniture.
Our bunnies, Mars and Jupiter, are Netherland Dwarfs, a little easier to handle than a full size bunny. We had wanted a pair of bunnies and thought dwarf rabbits would be more manageable, my Thumper had grown into a very large bunny and the thought of two of him was a bit much!
