Our first rat Crunchie joined our family in 1993. We don’t quite know why we thought of getting a pet rat, it just sort of came to us. Life with Crunchie was amazing and our little friends that have followed, well we have loved them all. The complexities of a rats personality has taught us we will never know enough, but the best we can offer them is love, attention and food.

We popped into the pet shop ‘for supplies’ and caught GMR (get more rats). But, Tula and Tilly are such cute little rats how could we resist?
While picking up our other little rats, Tula & Tilly, we caught sight of these rattie boys. We tried to resist, honest, but the next day popped back and three cuddly boys joined the family.
These three super cute Agouti girl rats came from a local breeder. They are almost identical, but Derek and I are having great fun figuring out what makes them different.

December 2008 – March 2011
Five beautiful rattie girls. They’d been left at the RSPCA and desperatly needed a new home where they could run, play and be together. How coud we say no?
August 2008 – June 2010
These three cheecky little rat boys are Daisy’s sons and brothers to Peach and Apricot. It was lovely to be able to give a home to the whole family.
July 2009 – March 2020
Two shy, chubby little rat guys from the RSPCA. They had been waiting for four months for a new home and we were thrilled to be their new family.
July 2008 – March 2010
More little RSPCA rats, meet Daisy and her two daughters Peach & Apricot. Though these girls suffered with their health, they were so much fun and always getting into trouble.
March 2009 – August 2009
Another little stray rat from the RSPCA. Tulip was a very shy little girl, who liked a quiet life. She moved in with Pearl and her sisters and loved the company.
December 2007 – July 2009
These rat guys are full of energy and mischief. They may be happy to snooze away the hours in their home, but get them out and they turn into bundles of craziness. Just what having ratties is all about, chaos.
September 2008 – February 2009
Twix was a very special rat who’s first family didn’t care for him properly. He needed lots of patience and care, but this beautiful boy deserved nothing less.
April 2008 – September 2008
Toffee was not happy on his own after the loss of his two brothers. So, we popped down our local RSPCA and came back with two cuddly friends for him. Three black hooded rats, it’s as though they were made for each other.
April 2008 – September 2008
While at the RSPCA collecting our two boys, Pickle & Tomato, this little girl rat ended up joining our family.
August 2006 – April 2008
Two little boy rats who are as opposite in temperament as they are in colour. These sweet little boys kindly welcomed Minty into their home, after the sad loss of his brother, Rummy.
December 2007
These two boy rats came to us from the RSPCA. Sadly little Rummy was very poorly and was only with us for one short week. Our big guy Minty now lives with our other boys Toffee and Carmel.
October 2004 – August 2006
After a trip to our local Wood Green Animal shelter four adorable rats joined our family. Two little girls and two cuddly boys, who have been neutered so they can all live together happily.
June 2003 – August 2005
A quartet of rat boys. One of those trips down the pet shop for some supplies which got out of hand. Oh well three of them were free.
October 2002 – August 2004
Two little pet shop rats and another that came from down the woods! Find out about this troublesome trio and what they got up to when no one was watching.
November 1999 – September 2002
Our first little girl rats, this troublesome pair lived in our dining room and did their best to make meal times fun!
June 1997 – October 1999
Crumble, the most laid back rat we have ever known and his friend, Silky, the gentlest.
December 1995 – March 1998
Our trio of troublesome rats, Misty was the boss and liked to keep his younger companions in their place.
March 1993 – November 1995
Our very first rat, Crunchie. He was the most amazing little friend we ever knew. This chap will always hold a very special place in our hearts.

Kiki the miniature rat

01 February 2012 by Lindsay

Kiki is adorable in every way, she’s fun and bouncy, has a beautiful affectionate temperament, and is very healthy – she just forgot to grow! When we got Maple and Kiki, they were both super cute little babies and exactly the same size.  Maple had her breathing problems when we first ...

09 January 2012 by Lindsay

I am very, very sad to say that our silly boy Polar has passed away yesterday.  After Tiny’s death and Panda being so upset, we had been spoiling the boys with a lot of extra treats, nothing naughty mind; bran flakes, a bit of our dinner and some fresh bread.  They had been loving it, but ...

No more Sputnik

No more Sputnik

22 December 2011 by Lindsay

I’m sure anyone who has rats knows what a Sputnik is.  They are fantastic plastic beds, by Savic, and have been hugely popular with many of my rats.  I got my first one when I bought a Savic ‘Freddy’ cage, it came with the cage, and I recently bought a second one when I got the ...

Five happy rats

Five happy rats

03 December 2011 by Lindsay

My five new girls are all happily living in their princess palace together.  As soon as we felt Maple was well enough we moved her and Kiki in with Dora, Tangy and Mitzi and once all the intial excitement was over watched them all settle down happily together. It was a nice and simple ...

Maple is feeling better

Maple is feeling better

28 November 2011 by Lindsay

I’m sorry to say that Maple’s sneezing had started to cause us concern, so we put her straight on a course of Baytril.  She was a very good girl and happily scoffed all her medicine, which we mixed in with baby food to make it more palatable for her.  As she is so tiny, Maple was only ...
