Hello, we are Derek and Lindsay and we live in Suffolk, England. Over the years we have managed to fill our home with a variety of animal friends, including bunnies, cats, gerbils, guinea pigs and far too many rats.

Lindsay launched this website in 2001 and back then it was solely dedicated to our pets. In February of 2009 we re-launched the site in the format you see now. As well as continuing to feature ongoing updates about our pets, we have added a selection of short stories and the out and about page.

Cat vs Rat: Inkie takes on Kiki and loses

Cat vs Rat: Inkie takes on Kiki and loses

20 January 2012 by Lindsay

I was at my desk working when Inkie thought she could sneak into the office and get her naughty little paws on my gorgeous little rats.  Inkie was so intent on her mischief she didn’t even notice I, or a little rat called Kiki, were watching her… The final score:  Cat 0 Rat 1

Three super cute Agouti rats

Three super cute Agouti rats

26 October 2011 by Lindsay

My very first rat, Crunchie, was an Agouti rat – a natural brown rattie – and a little while ago I made a joke to Derek how I was going to have three agouti boys and call them Crunchie, Crunchie and Crunchie!  Well you know they say, be careful what you wish for… I was wandering around the ...

Goodbye to our precious little rat, Tula

Goodbye to our precious little rat, Tula

28 March 2011 by Lindsay

I’m very sad to say that our sweet little girl, Tula has passed away. A couple of weeks ago she started having breathing problems.  We got her straight onto a course of Baytril and lots of baby food, but it didn’t seem to help.  Then to make matters worse we found a lump under her ...

Goodbye to our little girl, Smudge

Goodbye to our little girl, Smudge

22 March 2011 by Lindsay

Although Smudge only passed away this morning, both Derek and I feel very peaceful about her passing.  It’s strange to say but we aren’t really grieving for her, we will miss her, but there is no sorrow associated with her death, just calmness. I guess it’s because Smudge was so ...

A terrible day for our family

A terrible day for our family

03 February 2011 by Lindsay

Our beautiful, sweet little bunny, Fawn has passed away.  It is very difficult for us to accept he is gone.  At only 3 years of age we were not ready to say goodbye to our bouncy little chap. We had begun to suspect there was something wrong with Fawn, when his appearance started to change.  At ...

Smudge is still going strong

Smudge is still going strong

21 January 2011 by Lindsay

It’s funny to think that Smudge was our least favourite of the five girls we adopted from the RSPCA.  It’s not that we didn’t want her, although I don’t think I will ever be a fan of dumbo rats, it’s the fact that when we first got her she continually and aggressively ...

Another new friend for Fawn

Another new friend for Fawn

21 November 2010 by Lindsay

We were really pleased that Fawn and our new little cat, Inkie had become such firm friends and I’m absolutely thrilled to say that Fawn was doubly excited to meet Cubbie. Inkie was still a kitten when she joined our family from the RSPCA, but Cubbie was fully grown and he is a big cat.  ...

Inkie's back

Inkie's back

11 November 2010 by Lindsay

Not that she has been away, but our sweet little Inkie has spent the last week sulking.  We had our little cat spayed on Tuesday 2nd November.  As expected the operation was simple and we collected Inkie at 4pm from the vet the same day.  She was all cute and woozy and wearing one of those ...

Introducing Cubbie

Introducing Cubbie

20 October 2010 by Lindsay

When we first decided to go to the RSPCA and find out about adopting a cat, we looked at their website.  There were lots of lovely cats of all ages and sizes looking for homes, but one in particular caught our eye.  According to the website Mirage was a female, approximately 4 months old, ...
